Why pay when you can use something else similar for free? If you have been a Windows user relying heavily on office suites for your works, LibreOffice may be the best alternative to Microsoft Office for you if you are looking for a powerful yet free-to-use office software suite for Windows 11 or Windows 10.
LibreOffice applications work just as good as Microsoft Office for Windows 11/10. LibreOffice is a powerful office software suite that has everything you’ll ever need such as LibreOffice Writer (similar to Microsoft Word), Calc (similar to Excel), Impress (similar to PowerPoint), Draw (vector graphics and flowcharts), Base (databases), and Math (formula editing). And most importantly, they are all included in the LibreOffice full installation that is free to download and use.
LibreOffice for Windows 11/10
The LibreOffice for Windows is an offline installer by default. You don’t have to worry about using the LibreOffice setup on a computer that does not have internet connection. It will run just fine.
To download the latest version of LibreOffice for Windows 11/10, go to https://www.libreoffice.org/download/download/. In the latest version of LibreOffice, under “Choose your operating system”, select Windows (64-bit) or Windows (32-bit) depending on what version of Windows 11 you have. Then, click on the Download button to begin the LibreOffice download.
The installer should weigh around 270MB. Once downloaded, run the setup and follow the on-screen instructions to install LibreOffice on your Windows laptop or desktop PC. This is a full installation which includes all LibreOffice applications. After the installation is completed, you can run any LibreOffice app from your desktop or Start menu.
The default language is English if you do not select a language when clicking the download button. To select other languages, while you’re at the download page, before clicking the download button, click on the “need other language” link. Then, select your desired language and the LibreOffice download will be in the language of your choice.
Additionally, if you are to use LibreOffice on a computer with no internet access, you may need to download the LibreOffice Help Pack for offline users. This LibreOffice Help Pack includes the content that help you with using LibreOffice applications without going online. You can download the help pack by clicking the “Help for offline use: English (US)” link from the download page itself.
Microsoft Office Alternative – LibreOffice file types compatibility
LibreOffice apps are able to read most document formats such as .docx, .doc, .xlsx, .xlt, .xlsm, xltm, xlam, .xls, .ppt and .pptx. If these documents were originally created and edited in Microsoft Office, in most cases, LibreOffice should be able to read them just fine. However, there may be situations where the files would show missing elements or unsupported as the compatibility and file type support between both different office suites are not 100%.
While LibreOffice for Windows is free to download and use, if you like the software, you should consider donating them to support the community. You can donate them by going to their website and select donate.
