Both LibreOffice and Ubuntu advise that users should not install LibreOffice using the .deb files which can be downloaded from LibreOffice.org. Therefore, installing LibreOffice in Ubuntu 18.04 / 16.04 using PPA (Personal Package Archive) from supported Ubuntu repositories will ensure that you get the latest updates automatically in the future. Here’s how.
To get the latest version of LibreOffice than the one provided by Ubuntu repositories, it’s advised to first add the PPA provided by LibreOffice packaging team. Open terminal and enter the following command lines.
sudo apt-get install python-software-properties
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:libreoffice/ppa
sudo apt update
The first command line to install python-software-properties is to help manage the repositories that you install software from.
