Since Apple released their very first wireless earphones, which they called AirPods, most people thought that it can only be connected to their iPhone or iPad. Though they weren’t entirely wrong about this since AirPods are made mainly for iOS devices, you can also use AirPods on other devices or even computers if Bluetooth is available.
This short tutorial will show you how to connect Apple AirPods or AirPods Pro to Windows 10 laptop or desktop computer that has Bluetooth connectivity.
How to Connect AirPods to Windows 10
The connection between devices via Bluetooth is also called “pairing”, which you may have often heard when it comes to Bluetooth connection. The first part of this tutorial is for those who want to pair their AirPods with their PC for the first time.
If this is not your first time pairing your AirPods, scroll down to the second part of this tutorial to learn how to reconnect your AirPods to your PC again.
Before pairing your AirPods with your Windows 10 PC, make sure your AirPods is well charged and has at least 30% battery. To pair your AirPods with your Windows 10 PC, follow the steps below.
- On your Windows 10 PC, go to start menu. Search and open Settings.
- Select Devices.
- In the left pane, click on Bluetooth & other devices.
- In the right pane, click on Add Bluetooth or other devices.
- Under Add a device, select Bluetooth.
- On the next screen, select your AirPods and allow a few seconds for it to connect your AirPods to your PC.
Once it shows “connected“, you can then use your AirPods on your Windows 10 PC.
How to Re-Pair AirPods to Windows 10
By default, after pairing a Bluetooth device with Windows 10 for the first time, Windows will automatically pair the device when they are in range with each other. However, some devices and gadgets such as the AirPods can only be paired to one device at one time.
So, when your AirPods is connected to your iPhone or iPad, your Windows 10 PC will not automatically pair the AirPods even when it’s in range (because it is in used). You will have to manually re-pair them on the Bluetooth settings. Here’s how to do it.
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & other devices.
- Under the Audio section, select your AirPods and click on the Connect button.
AirPods cannot be found on the list of Bluetooth devices
First of all, make sure your AirPods are within Bluetooth connectable range (10 meters). If you still cannot see it on the list, try the following:
Close the lid, wait 15 seconds, then open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the case for up to 10 seconds. The status light should flash white, which means that your AirPods are ready to connect.
Can I connect AirPods to Windows 10 without Bluetooth?
The answer is an obvious no. AirPods is a Bluetooth device. So, it can only be connected to other devices or computers that have Bluetooth connectivity.
